Mohamed Aboukhatwa

Dr. Mohamed Aboukhatwa is a senior research scientist with the Illinois Applied Research Institute at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. He received his Ph.D. in Materials Engineering from McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada and his B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering from the American University in Cairo, Egypt. Before joining the University of Illinois and ARI, he worked in the aerospace sector as a repair development engineer specializing in analytical support, evaluations, and calculations for gas turbine repair schemes at StandardAero in Winnipeg, Canada. His research focuses on the development and processing of high-strength lightweight materials, qualification of new alloys for metal additive manufacturing, and application of surface modifications to improve performance.
